Hi Aka. Haven't spoken w/you in a while. I tried last night on chat but for some reason we never connected. Anyways, there are so many other addictions that run rampant in the US. We have morphine, meth, crack, cocaine, pot, & an addiction that is up & rising is to prescription meds. People can also be addicted to porn without the alcohol. But you are correct in saying that the first step is having the desire to quit in the first place.

imagine how sin begats sin and the family keeps increasing and all equals to FLESH and HELL.God bless You sister tammy.

The devil is now saying if a christian escapes this one the other will disguise and catch him.
More addictions are coming.Be sober and vigilant. the idiot walketh about seeking whom to devour.

Aka,
Yea they do. I would pick up another addiction to take place of the last one I dropped. It's a vicious cycle for sure. We could take those scriptures on alcohol & replace the word alcohol with whatever addiction is our god at the time.

Love u brother

I am a Christian and also a smoker. Like Tammy I have been addicted to many things.I believe GOD is still helping me with this problem too. I do not judge people by what I see but by their heart. I have prayed to GOD about deliverance from this outward sin but I believe that the inward sins are much more important. When Paul prayed to GOD about the "thorn in his side" GOD said HIS grace is sufficient for him. I praise GOD for HIS wisdom and I know I will be delivered from this also. Thank you for letting me express my opinion. Fran J

No. I haven't listened but I will make an attempt. I have been addicted to something most of my life. I would replace one thing w/another so yes, I do know the task that's ahead of those who desire to quit. Thank you for your ministry that helps others conquer their addictions & find victory in Christ.

That's a great approach. Just remember that an addiction is a spiritual stronghold and those who are captured by it have a very hard time getting out. They need the light of Christ to shine down on that situation and that's where we can help our family of faith. Did you get a chance to listen to the CD. It will help give you even more insight on the addiction issues especially if you've never been faced with that dilemna.

Actually, I wouldn't say anything. If a person is a Christian, the same Spirit that resides in me also resides in them. Not everyone is on the same level in their Christian walk so the Lord deals differently with each one of us. What may be my conviction today may be your conviction tomorrow so I just allow the Lord to do what He does best. He doesn't need me doing His job for Him. If they were to ask me, then I would say what I believed but if not, I just pray for them.

Shalom!!!

I've had several addictions. The worst was one that I didn't even know could be an addiction. There is no longer ANY temptation.
I now know I need God,
NOT idols.
They are ALL deceptions and distractions from the truth and freedom.
they are all missing the best God has for us (sin)

I have the gift of free will (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
I WILL worship something or someone. I get to choose.
Something or someone WILL master me. I get to choose.

Romans 12:1-12
John 8:31-32
Romans 6:11-14
2 Peter 1:3-4
Galatians 5:22-23
Ephesians 6:17

I have a "friend" who goes to church on Sunday, who smokes and reads her bible, and will uses language, I tried to talk to her about some of these situations in love, and she wrote me a very un-kind email about "judgement". I still love her a a friend, but I will pray for her.

I love that approach about addiction, once we own it GOD can help us beat it with scripture. I used to smoke about 12 years ago, i got sick with hpertension, and diabetes, I quit without any programs or patches, just GOD's Grace

Sometimes, that is what we wait for before we obey GOD.Before the twelfth year,i believe God kept telling You through different ways to stop it.But we wouldn't take it serious just like the friend you mentioned. It happens to me.But thank God we have the chance of living to make amends....for there is no repentance in the grave.

My Pastor was a pop star in the 60s in his teen years. he was very good at drums.....he played in almost all the big hotels in nigeria in those days.he was the smallest guy in their group....so talented and handsome.Girls would always fall for "that small one that plays drums" He was named Frin Jo.Waht ever it means neither me nor Him knows. He became the most popular in the group....and he even made their group the most liked and popular.
But one day somehow,he met Christ. He stoped dating women,smoking,cursing.....and so many things, but he didnt stop playing drums to entertain halots and promote worldliness.
God kept disturbibng His conscience but he refused for what ever reason.
One day he heard God's voice saying....."IF I ALLOW YOU TO GET AN ACCIDENT AND DAMAGE YOUR LEG SUCH THAT YOU CAN NEVER MAKE US OF IT AGAIN IN LIFE,HOW WILL YOU PLAY FOR OTHER SHOWS IN THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?"
The conviction was too serious that he surrendered and decided to quit immediately.....and he never played again with the worldly group.
It looked as if His live, destiny and all the enjoyment in the world was there but it was better to obey God.
Now Pastor channeled his live towards God and became the envy of all his peers. He worked and voluntarily retired as a very senior staff of one on the big banks in nigeria.Well, he retired to face the Ministry as God instructed Him.He never did badly in life after then.I envy His life and ministry.
But i wonder what would have happened if he didn't quit the so called Drums addiction seeing that all the members of His group are either dead or mad in the streets. He always shows us some mad men who were His musical group boys.and they come and greet him to beg for some money. What a testimony?

I agree that sometimes we turn a blind eye to God's convictions Aka but I also believe that we all have different walks & are at different levels. The day we get get saved, these things are not immediately removed. It's a daily growth & removal of the world. We will be fighting the flesh until we see Him face to face. Then, and only then will we be who God has called us to be. What God may convict someone of today, He may not be convicting the other person of that same thing until tomorrow. There may be other issues that is more important to God with that person's life than smoking & reading the Word at the same time. Personally, I would rather a friend smoke while reading the Word than not read the Word at all. We need to step back & allow God to do what He does best. Remember the splinter Christians, remember the splinter. And when it comes to my eye, it's 2X4. So, I cannot tell anyone how they should & should not live because He's still working on ME.
